Endangered Fauna
Giant Anteater -- one of the most endangered mammals in South America.
In conjunction with our field stations, the NGC will direct long-term conservation and monitoring projects that embody our mission of conservation, collaboration, and education.

BLUE-THROATED MACAW
Our first directed recovery program.

The Blue-throated Macaw is critically endangered. Fewer than 200 individuals were estimated in the wild after a recent census. This colorful species is associated with Motacu palm islands. Motacu fruit year round and provide nesting habitat for these macaws. Forest islands result from either pre-Columbian agriculture or steam meandering.

This little known species is also threatened by the captive bird trade.

Look for more information on this exciting new project in the coming months.
