NGC donates equipment and money to local scientists, operates
a field station in Bolivia, and directs conservation projects
and educational programs. |
The Neotropical Grassland Conservancy is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit
corporation founded in 2001. The NGC is dedicated to:
CONSERVATION
- Promoting the conservation of savannas, gallery forests,
wetlands, and associated ecosystems in Central and South America;
COLLABORATION
- Fostering mutually beneficial collaboration between North
American and Central and South American scientists and institutions
by providing shared scientific and educational opportunities.
GOALS
- To design and manage research programs focusing on habitat
restoration and endangered, threatened, or economically important
species, especially those upon which local peoples depend;
- To maintain and expand a student grant program to cover the
costs of consumable supplies and travel for graduate students
working to conserve Neotropical grasslands;
- To maintain and expand field stations in the Neotropical
grasslands (e.g., the "llanos" of Venezuela) to further all
other conservation, scientific research, and education objectives;
- To establish a research equipment program including basic
science equipment such as microscopes, binoculars, and literature
to donate to Latin American researchers, especially biology
students.
